Hello
Can I do a backup on a routerboard say a 2011 and restore to a CCR1009?

Thanks

Hi,

Sure, Unimus uses "/export compact", so restoring between different RB is possible.
(this of course assumes the "target" has enough ports to satisfy the config)

I am trying to use one mikrtik backup as a template for another. Do I have to remove the mac addresses from the backup before restoring to the new router? This new router will be used at a new location, not replacing existing unit

There is no need to strip anything to restore to a new unit.
Only requirement is enough ports, and a same RouterOS version.

So if you are not doing something like restoring from a 2011 to a mAP (which would not work because 10 ports vs 2 ports), you will be OK :)
